Ascension is the reset loop that turns Metin2 Idle into a real incremental game. You give up your level and start again, permanently stronger.
What resets, what you keep
Resets:
- Character level, back to 1
- Experience
- Stat points and skill points (refunded, then respent)
- Zone unlocks
You keep:
- All gear and inventory
- Yang
- Dungeon tokens
- Guild membership
- Everything bought with gems, and all cosmetics
Keeping gear is the deliberate part. A reset that took your equipment would be mathematically tidier and much worse to play — and nobody should lose something they paid for because they pressed a progression button.
When you can ascend
Ascension unlocks at level 60. After that you may ascend at any time, and the reward scales with how far you pushed — so there's a real "one more level first" tension every run.
Shards
Ascending pays Ascension Shards:
shards = C × √(total experience earned this run)
The square root is intentional. It keeps shards per hour roughly flat, which means pushing deeper is rewarded but never strictly dominant over ascending early and going again. Both playstyles stay viable.
The shard tree
Shards buy permanent, account-wide ranks. Costs rise geometrically per rank, so each node has a natural stopping point rather than a hard cap.
| Node | Per rank |
|---|---|
| Might | +5% power |
| Fortune | +4% loot quantity |
| Insight | +6% experience |
| Avarice | +5% yang |
| Momentum | +2% attack speed |
| Greed | +3% shard gain |
| Legacy | Start each run above level 1, keep zone unlocks |
Greed is the engine. More shards per run buys more ranks, which buys more shards. It's the node that turns a linear grind into a curve, and it's usually the correct early investment even though it does nothing for your damage.
Legacy is what makes later runs fast — skipping the early levels you've already cleared many times over.
What runs feel like
The target, validated in simulation:
- Run 2 clears the same content roughly 2× faster
- Run 5, roughly 10× faster
- Run 10, roughly 100× faster
The first reset is the one that feels bad. After that, the early game disappears under you and the reset becomes the thing you're aiming for.
How it interacts with gear
Shard multipliers enter the same Π(1 + x) product as gear bonuses (see
Combat and power). They don't replace gear — they
multiply it. A well-geared character gains more absolute power per shard rank
than a poorly-geared one, so ascension rewards the gear you kept.
